The Tourist Syndrome Summer Camp, 3 - 11 September 2009, Palanga, Lithuania
The summer camp, structured as a collective brain storming session, includes three main workshops, an intense program of presentations, screenings and events, and also offers convivial and informal moments, drawing from the tradition of Socialist plein air symposia, combining work and leisure. The workshop Displacements held by Cesare Pietroiusti examines the contemporary experience of dislocation, both in its psychological and social aspects of estrangement and alienation, and in its meaning within the discourses of tourism and migration. Krystian Woznicki and Magdalena Taube’s Tourism Complexes workshop prompts the participants to produce texts on the experience of travelling, that will be published on the electronic magazine Berliner Gazette (www.berlinergazette.de). In this workshop tourism is dealt with as an all encompassing system. Touching all conceivable areas of society with its expansive dynamic, tourism has no "outside" and therefore renders virtually everybody a tourist. At the core of Michael Zinganel’s workshop Stop And Go. Tourism, migration and art at the junctures of the transnational mobility continuum lies the examination of the roles of tourism and migration in a transnational mobility continuum. The Tourist Syndrome Summer Camp in Palanga is organized in cooperation with Meno Parkas (Kaunas. Lituania).
